San Diego Law Library celebrates Law Day

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” --
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

To celebrate Law Day, the San Diego Law Library will be hosting events to increase access to justice throughout the week of April 28 to May 2. In partnership with our local bar associations, all of our locations will be hosting free legal clinics during the week. Appointments for the clinics are on a first come, first-served basis. Clinic dates and times vary depending on location:

Tuesday, April 30: Downtown San Diego, 1 to 4 p.m.;
Wednesday, May 1: East County branch, El Cajon, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.;
Thursday, May 2: North County branch, Vista, 1 to 4 p.m.

Law Day, established in 1958 by President Eisenhower, is a day of national dedication to the principles of government under law. Congress declared May 1 as Law Day three years later.

The theme for Law Day 2013 is "Realizing the Dream: Equality for All." This year is the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech and the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. In the last 50 years, much has been accomplished combating forms of discrimination, including race, gender and ethnicity. Today, King's words continue to inspire us toward the ideal of equality under the law for all people.

Each branch is also hosting a drop-off box for the Children at Risk Book Drive sponsored by the San Diego County Bar Association.
