As a year-round long-distance ocean swimmer, Steve Coopersmith is used to thriving in extreme, difficult conditions.
Business disputes can be difficult as well, and businesses facing bet-the-company litigation need strategic and clear-thinking legal advice to guide them toward calmer waters.
Coopersmith founded The Coopersmith Law Firm in 2008 to fill a niche in the San Diego legal community.
Having served as a military prosecutor in the Army’s JAG Corps, and after nearly a decade of private law practice with prominent firms in San Diego, Coopersmith opened a boutique business litigation firm to provide effective and efficient legal services designed for the small to mid-size business community.
According to Coopersmith, "Large law firms are too often inefficient and expensive, and not designed to accommodate these smaller organizations and their legal matters. Small firms are often not able to provide high-quality legal advice with the litigation and trial experience needed to win. We bridge that gap and provide high-quality legal advice with an eye toward our client’s bottom line."
Coopersmith certainly has the credentials to back that up. After graduation from the University of Pennsylvania and law school at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, Coopersmith was directly commissioned as an Army officer. He advised senior commanders on a wide range of legal issues, and tried felony criminal cases to courts-martial.
That means he started his career trying cases before juries, a skill many lawyers claim to have but do not.
The Coopersmith Law Firm focuses on business litigation -- in essence, any dispute concerning commercial or business matters which could turn into litigation.
The firm routinely handles partnership and corporate disputes, contract disputes and financial fraud allegations. The firm advises clients on executive-level employment, real estate and securities matters.
The firm also gives advice to companies who need general business advice and guidance on how to avoid conflicts, and resolve them before they turn into litigation.
The firm’s clients are small and mid-size companies, national companies and individuals with business concerns.
"I listen to my clients, analyze the best strategy, and communicate with them about how to achieve their goals. Litigation is like a chess game — you must play each move smartly and thoughtfully, with an eye toward what you can achieve in both the short and long term. We look several steps beyond, to see all the options,” according to Coopersmith.
Coopersmith holds a coveted “AV-Preeminent” Peer Review rating from the Martindale-Hubbell International Law Directory, and a "Superb" rating from the Avvo.com legal rating website.
Coopersmith is a member of the San Diego Rotary Club 33, the San Diego County Bar Association, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers and the American Bar Association.
With top-notch credentials, excellent experience and thoughtful advice, The Coopersmith Law Firm is focused on its clients’ needs and know how to get them there.
