Getting to know the San Diego Legal Secretaries Association

The San Diego Legal Secretaries Association (SDLSA) is a nonprofit, mutual benefit corporation formed as an organization for the further education of those engaged in the legal secretarial field. It is a chapter member of Legal Secretaries Inc. (LSI), a California corporation comprised of over 3,500 members throughout California. SDLSA encourages friendship, cooperation and an exchange of ideas among its members. SDLSA strives to pursue and stimulate a high order of professional standards in the legal profession, pursuant to the following Code of Ethics:

"It shall be the duty of each member of Legal Secretaries Inc. to observe all laws, rules and regulations now in effect relating to confidentiality and privileged communications, acting with loyalty, integrity, competence and diplomacy, in accordance with the highest standard of professional conduct."

SDLSA membership benefits include: a subscription to Legalines, a monthly bulletin published by SDLSA; a subscription to The Legal Secretary, a quarterly magazine published by LSI; a legal secretary training course, co-sponsored with the Association of Legal Administrators; credit union membership, insurance plans (medical and dental), plus membership in Costco, Hertz and Wells Fargo bank.

SDLSA also supports the California Certified Legal Secretary (CCLS) program by conducting study courses for those who wish to pursue certification. In addition, SDLSA offers various educational programs at monthly membership meetings presented by legal professionals and other guest speakers to further the education and growth of the legal secretarial profession. SDLSA also presents quarterly lunchtime Brown Bag seminars, sponsored by Exclusively Legal, with legal professional guest speakers.

Membership in SDLSA is available to persons employed as legal support staff in the offices of attorneys who practice law in California. Also eligible for membership are attorneys, persons employed in the courts and persons employed in other offices or institutions directly engaged in any work of a legal nature in San Diego County. Prospective members may apply for active membership, provided they have been so employed in San Diego County for a continuous period of six months, or elsewhere for a continuous period of at least one year. Associate and student memberships are available for those not meeting active membership requirements.
