  • The Girl Scouts at 90 - From building campfires to building Web sites

As the Girl Scouts celebrate its 90th birthday this year, the image of girls around the campfire has shifted to one of girls around the computer. In 1912, when Girl Scouts was founded, survival skills meant sewing and cooking. In the 21st century, the Girl Scouts still teach survival skills -- this time in math, science and technology. Today's Girl Scouts are dealing with geology, archaeology, color and light, the power of the brain, kitchen science, astronomy, atmospheric science and more.

  • Heller Ehrman -- supporting the Athena vision

Heller Ehrman is pleased to be the lead sponsor of the Athena Pinnacle awards again in 2002. Athena's vision -- fostering personal and professional change through inclusion, risk taking, education, recognition and diversity of thought -- is a vision consistent with Heller Ehrman's core values: excellence, people, teamwork, community and one firm. Like Athena, Heller Ehrman believes its vision enhances competitiveness and opportunity in the San Diego community.

  • Strategic initiatives at Athena

A critical part of the success of any organization that serves its constituency well is that it grows and stretches as the community it serves changes. Within Athena, the group that focuses on this is the Strategic Initiatives Committee (SIC). This is a subgroup of the Athena Board that was newly constituted this year for the purpose of gathering and developing the vision for Athena's future.

  • A crown jewel of Athena membership

Forums for Executive Women, or FEW groups, are one of the crown jewels of Athena membership for both executive and associate members.

  • Reflection of the interests and values of Athena Members

Athena programs are designed to reflect the interests and values of our membership. These programs inspire, motivate and teach in settings that allow us to communicate, share and network with our peers. Athena's goal is to present cutting-edge programs that focus on leadership, personal development and business skills, addressing topics such as entrepreneurship, finance and law. These programs are developed through monthly meetings of Athena's Board of Directors, executive director and the dedicated Program Committee. The dedication of these Athena members have increased the number and variety of events this fiscal year.

  • UCSD Athena Pinnacle Awards co-chairs epitomize the Athena vision

UCSD Athena is a San Diego organization that unites women executives from high-tech and life science companies and the firms that support them. This year marks the fourth year that Athena has celebrated the presentation of its coveted Pinnacle Awards. These awards recognize women and men who support the Athena vision: "To foster personal and professional change through inclusion, risk taking, education, recognition and diversity of thought, thereby enhancing competitiveness and opportunity in the San Diego business community."

  • Honoring those who support the Athena vision

UCSD Athena, an organization that unites executive women from high-tech and life science companies and the firms that support them, will hold its 4th annual Pinnacle Awards on Tuesday, April 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines.

  • Message from the President

The Pinnacle Awards are centerpieces of Athena, as we honor individuals, a company and an educator who symbolize the mission of UCSD Athena and who are at the pinnacle of success. Yet the awards are only one part of this event. An equally important component is awarding scholarships to senior high school women who have chosen to pursue studies in math, science and technology fields. These are the women who, in the future, will ultimately help to execute Athena's mission. Our board and membership consist of many women who studied math and science and since then, have translated skills into very successful careers in these and the technology fields.
