  • Naval facility construction provides much-needed upgrades

    Two new hangars and a ground support building were completed at the Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro earlier this summer, while phase two of the project has been put on hold due to contractual issues. The hangars measure 34,200 square feet each, and have replaced hangars built in the 1940s that are being torn down.

  • Santee attains first Class A office space with RiverView project

    The RiverView Professional Center, Santee's first Class A office project, is set to be completed next month with six free-standing, divisible office buildings, ranging from 6,875 square feet up to 13,575 square feet. The 63,500-square-foot project is phase two of the five-phase RiverView at Santee, being developed by Ryan Cos.. The third phase, including a movie theater and condos, has been temporarily put on hold.

  • Sharp Grossmont Hospital upgrade under way

    In an effort to update the busiest emergency department in the county, expand its other facilities and meet seismic safety standards, the Grossmont Healthcare District asked voters to approve a general obligation bond measure last June.

  • Maggio Industrial Center to help fill need for industrial, commercial space in Imperial County

    With more than 15 million square feet of industrial and commercial space south of the border in Mexicali and less than 600,000 square feet of such space on the U.S. side of the port of entry, the construction of additional industrial and commercial space in Imperial County is needed.

  • Transportation projects provide better access to East County

    Some of the transportation projects that will impact the East County are actually outside of the area but will provide better access to East County sites.

  • Construction near completion at Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College

    Since January of this year, the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District in East County has opened three new buildings on its two campuses, and as of fall 2007 will open two additional buildings.

  • Redevelopment efforts continue throughout East County

    One of the East County's biggest economic engines will be the Ryan Cos.' 108-acre RiverView at Santee. The mixed-use development will ultimately provide 1.9 million square feet of technology, R&D, entertainment, office and residential uses along the south bank of the San Diego River.

    Vacant land in La Mesa may be hard to find, but infill growth is thriving and construction currently is underway on no fewer than four major projects, including the Grossmont Trolley Station mixed-use development; Phase II of the Civic Center complex that includes a new public library and a new retail storefront for the U.S. Post Office; Briercrest, a planned retirement community being built by the Health Care Group; and the Grossmont Healthcare District's multiple construction projects resulting from a successful $247 million bond measure in 2006.

  • Construction under way on new commercial center in El Cajon

    Priest Development Corp. has begun construction on a new commercial center in El Cajon, set to be finished in early 2008, and the company plans to relocate its headquarters to one of the three new buildings. The new center, called Corners Promenade, will be on the southwest corner of Main Street and Magnolia Avenue, adjacent to the 28 town homes that make up Promenade Square on the back side of the corner.
