San Diego's reputation as a hotbed of life sciences and technology looks to grow next year, as one of the world's biggest biotech conference comes to the city, and experts predict three cutting-edge technology sectors will take off.

Judy Walsh
With more than two decades of service at Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), Judy Walsh has spent her entire career with the rapidly growing cable operator -- an industry leader in developing and launching video, data and voice services. She has steadily worked her way up the company ranks, and is now president of Time Warner's San Diego division, which serves San Diego County, the Palm Springs area and Barstow.

Curtis Reusser
Curtis Reusser, CEO of Goodrich Aerostructures, has described the company's operations in the past year as being in a "real crunch mode."

Craig Litchin
Most of Intellectual Technology Inc.'s business takes place outside the San Diego area and it has less than a dozen local employees, but observers say the Carlsbad company is on the move.

Paul Jacobs
Despite ongoing legal battles with some of the world's biggest wireless and cell phone companies, investors remained pleased with San Diego giant Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) at an investor conference in November.

Dr. Albert Deisseroth
Dr. Albert Deisseroth is not just the man responsible for steering a staff of 142 people at one of the country's leading cancer research centers. His big job as president and chief executive of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in La Jolla is leading the way to a whole new generation of cancer therapeutics and vaccination that are less toxic than chemotherapy.

Mark Dankberg
Mark Dankberg started his company ViaSat (Nasdaq: VSAT) not only in one of the most competitive business sectors, high-tech, but also in the shadow of Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM), one of the biggest wireless companies in the world.

Ken Dahlberg
When Ken Dahlberg took over as chairman of Science Applications International Corp. in 2004 and chief executive officer in 2003, the company was still entirely employee-owned with annual revenues of less than $6 billion.

Fernando Corona
Fernando Corona, vice president for channel development for Leap Wireless International Inc. (Nasdaq: LEAP), has spent the last 30 years surfing some of the most crowded and competitive beach breaks in all of California.

Jim Bixby
Perhaps it was a baby boomer that first quipped, "Quitting smoking was the easiest thing I ever did. I ought to know, because I've done it a thousand times." But now for the aging demographic, the effect of decades of tobacco is no laughing matter.

Robert Bernard
In the past year, Ichor Medical Systems Inc. has taken treatment research that proved promising on animals and moved into clinical trials with humans in an attempt to find vaccines for some of mankind's most troubling diseases.
