    On May 3, more than 400 community leaders, volunteers and concerned residents gathered at the estate of philanthropist and community volunteer Joan Waitt for a spectacular Centennial Gala for the YWCA of San Diego County. The inaugural gala raised more than $200,000 for survivors of domestic violence and homeless women, families and children.

  • YWCA proposal to house and lead the Family Justice Center

    On March 27, the YWCA Board of Directors submitted a proposal to the city of San Diego offering to permanently house and lead the San Diego Family Justice Center (FJC). The YWCA provides shelter and supportive services to victims of family violence in the city of San Diego, serving more than 1,000 people each year. Two-thirds of the residents in the YWCA's shelters and transitional living facilities are children. The YWCA owns the historic 65,000-square-foot building at 1012 C St., which needs immediate renovation and remodeling. The current lease of the Family Justice Center will expire in March 2010.
