This summer, volunteers from the San Diego Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) worked on renovating a building that is not their own. On Saturday, July 26, BOMA members and colleagues gave the San Diego Youth and Community Service's (SDYCS) Youth Education Town facility a much-needed facelift - from the inside out - dedicating labor and supplies to extensive landscaping, painting, cleaning and various repairs as the group's Summer Work Project. They give special thanks to Frazee Paint for donating the needed supplies for this project.
The Colliers International San Diego office renovation is among this year's Calibre Award honorees. The design award was created by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), Southern California Chapter.
Move-in-ready office suites up to 42,000 rentable square feet are now available at Legacy Wateridge. The two-building corporate office project is located on 9.54 acres at 10421 and 10431 Wateridge Circle within the Sorrento Mesa master-planned Wateridge Business Park in San Diego (92121).
Bridgepoint Education is the major tenant in Kilroy Realty Corp.'s Sabre Springs Campus, which consists of three buildings built by Reno Contracting. Reno Contracting and Kilroy Realty will deliver an early September completion date of tenant interiors for the institution. Designed by architect Hanna Gabriel Wells, the core and shell of Building Three awaits final LEED Silver Certification.
School may be out for the summer, but remodeling of educational facilities is in, as an estimated $20 billion in such projects is now underway nationwide.

BOMA International and the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) are pleased to announce the publication of "A Unified Approach to Measuring Office Space," which is a report outlining common definitions for floor area measurements as well as major revisions to IFMA and BOMA's respective area measurement standards.

BOMA recently joined a coalition of more than 100 organizations calling on the U.S. Senate to pass immediate legislation that would extend a set of tax provisions that either expired at the end of 2007 or will expire at the end of 2008. In a letter to the Senate, the diverse coalition of labor, business and nonprofit organizations urged prompt passage of S. 2886 in a manner that the president will sign into law. Among the extenders in the bill are the 15-year timeline for depreciating leasehold improvements and the expensing of brownfields clean-up costs, both of which expired at the end of 2007.
