    Recently constructed McMillin Homes at the Quintessa neighborhood within the resort-style Rolling Hills Ranch community in eastern Chula Vista are now available for viewing and purchase, announced Pattie Walker, vice president of sales for McMillin Homes.

  • Independent exhibitor to renovate Coronado's only movie theater

    The Village Theater is the only movie theater in Coronado, built in the 1940s and located on Orange Avenue. It was closed down in 2000, leaving city residents with no option but to go across to downtown San Diego or elsewhere to catch the latest movies.

  • Arts get a boost with new facilities in Southeast San Diego

    When 18-year-old Chula Vista resident Christian Baez told his parents he wanted to pursue acting as a full-time career, they had a moment of panic.

  • Southwestern College brings education closer to South County residents

    As the only public institution of higher education in South County, Southwestern College has provided quality programs and services to more than 600,000 students since its inception in 1961. The college is the region's primary source of training for police officers, firefighters, nurses, paramedics and other well-paying local jobs. The college's four full-service locations in Chula Vista, National City, Otay Mesa and San Ysidro bring the college experience closer to home to for all South County residents.

  • South County: Leading the region's water conservation efforts

    Although summer is coming to an end, the need for water conservation is not. In June, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statewide drought proclamation. With pumping restrictions in Northern California reducing local supply, mandatory water conservation in 2009 is increasingly likely.

  • Palm Avenue improvement projects to revive city's economic center

    The first of two projects to improve Imperial Beach's most traveled thoroughfare, Palm Avenue, which runs east to west through the city and connects to the Silver Strand's Highway 75, are now under way. Construction on the Palm Avenue street-end improvement project, at the west terminus of the street, began earlier this summer with the relocation of a glass mosaic wall art piece that once stood at the sand's edge. A second project, streetscape improvements of Palm Avenue between Seacoast Drive and Third Street, began just a few weeks later.

  • Projects moving forward in Chula Vista

    Although the building industry has been hit hard by the nationwide economic slowdown, there are signs of life in Chula Vista as builders and developers eye the city's potential and make preparations for the near future.

  • Residents raising funds for Imperial Beach skate park

    Imperial Beach resident Emily Young is part of a community group called IB4Skate Park, which is actively canvassing for donations to build a skate park in 2009. The county of San Diego and the city have already contributed funds.

  • Cross-border companies setting up shop in San Diego to boost near-sourcing advantage

    When Kenn Morris, the CEO of Crossborder Group Inc. started his consulting company back in 1996 to assist entities interested in doing business across the border, his clients were mostly U.S. companies that wanted to go south and take advantage of NAFTA.

  • Gaylord announces Arizona project; will not slow Chula Vista plans

    As Gaylord Entertainment Co.’s proposed project in Chula Vista slugs along, the company is announcing a new convention hotel and resort in Mesa, Ariz.

  • Imperial Beach apartment faces affordable conversion

    The 15-unit Beachwind Court apartment complex at 624 12th St. in Imperial Beach 91932, has been sold for $2.1 million, or $140,000 a unit.
