San Diego-based medical technology company CareFusion (NYSE: CFN) has announced plans to launch three new products at the upcoming Conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
CareFusion's ChloraPrep 1mL applicator, ChloraShield IV dressing and MaxZero needleless connector, the three products to be launched, are each designed to help reduce surface contamination or the presence of microorganisms that can potentially cause infections during hospital stays and procedures.
The company also plans to present new data at the conference on tools that can improve patient compliance with physician cleansing instructions, and how increased compliance can affect the amount of antiseptic present on the skin.
According to CareFusion, the ChloraPrep 1mL applicator provides clinicians with a new applicator design, though with the same formulation they know in a new 1 milliliter size. Its delivery system and winged activation design make it easy to use, the company said, and can help promote aseptic techniques and best practices. The ChloraShield IV dressing with chlorhexidine gluconate antimicrobial is a flexible and breathable dressing intended to enhance patient care during vascular access procedures. The chlorhexidine gluconate incorporated within the adhesive reportedly preserves the dressing from microbial growth.
The MaxZero needleless applicator is an extension to a proprietary portfolio of needleless connectors for CareFusion, and is designed to help improve patient safety and promote nursing best practices with a solid, sealed surface that CareFusion said provides a barrier to bacteria and contamination. The design, CareFusion said, also enables three-second disinfection with an alcohol pad.
The upcoming Conference of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology will be held in Anaheim from June 7-9.
