San Diego-based Pathway Genomics Corp. said it now has the ability to provide genetic testing services to physicians participating in Blue Shield of California’s preferred provider network.
The clinical laboratory already offers genetic testing services internationally. The addition of Blue Shield of California to its list of service recipients gives about 3.3 million more people access to Pathway Genomics’ genetic testing services. Blue Shield of California has an HMO network of more than 34,000 physicians and 290 hospitals, as well as a PPO network that includes more than 60,000 physicians and 351 hospitals.
Jim Plante, Pathway Genomics’ founder and CEO, said in a release that the testing services include testing for a person’s genetic propensity for specific medication responses, inherited genetic conditions, and the risk of serious complex health conditions.
