In its latest effort to advertise its “Born Mobile” campaign, Qualcomm Inc. managed to squeeze in a canary-colored convertible, a brigade of sled dogs and a mini circus in under two minutes.
The San Diego-based chipmaker’s new YouTube video, called "Best Bus Stop Ever," has gotten more than 300,000 hits since its release on Tuesday.
Last month CEO Paul Jacobs unveiled the campaign during his star-studded keynote speech at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, demonstrating that using a mobile device is second nature in today's society.
The backdrop of the latest video is a bus stop near the University of Southern California’s campus in Los Angeles. Three patrons waiting for a ride at different times get the surprise of their lives after they whip out their mobile devices to visit a link advertised at the bus stop.
Each gag is centered on an emotional utility that mobile serves.
The first person visits the link under a sign that says, "In a hurry?" Instantaneously, up rolls a yellow sports car and he happily hops in. The second person visits the link under the words "Seen it all?" Six sled-pulling pooches trot onto the scene, and he sits back for the ride.
The third responds to a "Bored?" inquiry and a group of entertainers -- including a clown carrying popcorn, jugglers and accordion player -- pour out of a bus.
The exaggerations of why people use their mobile devices and smartphones aim to get them to appreciate the Qualcomm (Nasdaq: QCOM) technology that's inside.
“Mobile is even more important to consumers than we even realize -- it’s become a given within our everyday lives,” Liya Sharif, senior director of marketing for Qualcomm.
