The Borrego Springs area, located due east of San Diego, is a desert world totally unlike most of coastal San Diego County.  The area is well known for the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, which seeks to preserve the Colorado section of the Sonora desert.  San Diegans flock here in the Spring to see the desert floor, normally a grey vista covered with sage brush and cactus, bloom with a riot of wildflowers.

Located in northeastern San Diego County, Borrego Springs is a 90-minute drive from downtown San Diego. Village-based businesses and an exotic desert environment make tourism the major industry in the city and a key influence on the local job market. The area is alive with wildlife and is famous for its springtime wildflower displays.
