From railroad land to most expensive zip code

In 1845, nearly 9,000 acres that comprised Rancho San Dieguito as it was then known, were deeded to Mexican magistrate Juan Osuna as a land grant. The bulk of this land was acquired by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad company in 1906, with the idea of planting eucalyptus trees that would supply wood for the railroad ties the company needed to expand into the western United States.
