The San Diego Zoo has become known as an educational way for guests to view and enjoy the animals. The exhibits at the zoo have been designed to closely simulate life in the wild that provides a stimulating environment for the animals. There are many exhibits to choose from and include African rainforest settings or Arctic tundra settings.

Not to be ignored is the San Diego Zoo's plant collection. It is an officially registered botanical garden collection. There are more than 6,500 plant species. Included among those are over 400 species of palms, 150 species of aloes and 31 species of bamboo. Many of the plants fed to the Zoo's animals are raised especially for that purpose on the grounds. If you'll look at the landscaping as you are walking around you may find a Galapagos tortoise "browsing" on a hibiscus bush tip!
