Welcome to the Executive Profiles section of Point Loma Nazarene University's Master of Business Administration program. Featuring current graduates of the MBA as well as the members of the faculty, the intention is to provide the San Diego business community a convenient connecting point to the high quality individuals involved in the Point Loma Nazarene University MBA. Dr. James McEliece

Point Loma Nazarene University

Dr. Jim McEliece is a professor of Economics and Finance in the Fermanian School of Business at Point Loma Nazarene University.

Joining the fulltime faculty of the School in 1994, he has taught Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, International Economics, Corporate Finance, Management, Entrepreneurship and Strategy.

He also teaches Financial Management in the Master of Business Administration program for the School.He served three years as the Chair of the Department prior to its transition to the School of Business.

This is Jim’s second career, following a successful 29 years as an officer in the U.S. Army.Jim received his BS degree in general engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1965.Commissioned in Armor, he completed Airborne and Ranger schools, and then served in tank and cavalry units in Germany and throughout the U.S. He is a decorated combat veteran of Vietnam War.

He obtained a Master of Science degree in Industrial Management from Georgia Tech in 1972 and served as an operations research analyst for the Army. In this capacity, he worked on weapons systemsacquisition and combat medical delivery for the Army Logistics Center. Upon completion of the Army’s Command and General Staff College in 1978, he returned to the Military Academy as an instructor in the Department of Social Sciences, teaching economics and engineering economy. He was later selected to the permanent faculty at the Academy, serving as the Associate Dean for Operations and Registrar for 13 years. During this time, he completed a Ph.D. in Economics at the Colorado School of Mines. He continued to serve on the staff of the Dean of Academics until his retirement as a Colonel in 1994.

Jim and his wife of 42 years, Julie have one daughter and three grandchildren. They are active in their church, teaching Sunday school, leading a Bible study and serving on advisory committees for Small Groups and Marriage Mentoring. Jim is a member and past president of Christian Executive Officers, and Julie is the current president of Professional Women’s’ Fellowship in San Diego. They live in Rancho Bernardo and enjoy all forms of athletic recreation.
