Welcome to the Executive Profiles section of Point Loma Nazarene University's Master of Business Administration program. Featuring current graduates of the MBA as well as the members of the faculty, the intention is to provide the San Diego business community a convenient connecting point to the high quality individuals involved in the Point Loma Nazarene University MBA. As members of the Fermanian School of Business at PLNU, over 500 students are currently pursuing either undergraduate or graduate business degrees in both day and evening classes.

Ms. Jane Schmitz is a Business Teacher and Coordinator for the Academy of Entrepreneurship at Mission Bay High School in the San Diego Unified School District. Previously she served as a Community Learning Instructor for Grossmont/Cuyamaca College District and Instructor in the Business Department at Southwestern College and Culinary Arts Department at Grossmont College.
Prior to her education career she was the Owner/Operator of Jane’s Secret Garden in La Mesa, a restaurant/bakery with gourmet gift shop and tea room and catering services for special events and banquets. Her establishment was selected as one of the best restaurants in San Diego County in 1996 by Channel 8’s “Unknown Eater.” She is a “serial entrepreneur” with extensive start-up experiences.
Jane was nominated for the San Diego Business Journal “Women Who Mean Business Award” in 2007 representing San Diego Unified School District, and also received an award for successful completion of the Entrepreneur Enrichment Program 2007-2008 through the Fermanian School of Business at Point Loma Nazarene University.
She was awarded the “Rising Star” in 1997 for a woman owned business that made an impact on the community, and also represented small business for La Mesa on the Economic Task Force for the City of La Mesa, and has served on numerous civic and charitable organizations throughout her career.
Schmitz earned an Associate in Science Degree in Culinary Arts from Grossmont College, and also holds an Associate in Science Degree in Entrepreneurship/Small Business Management from Cuyamaca College. She earned her Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Art with an emphasis in Environmental/Interior Design from San Diego State University and is also a California Designated Subjects Teaching Credential. In 2008 she earned her MBA with an emphasis in Organizational Leadership from Point Loma Nazarene University. Her MBA thesis project titled ”Starting Early with Entrepreneur Education for High School Students, The Academy of Entrepreneurship” is being implemented at Mission Bay High School.
Schmitz and her husband reside in La Mesa, California and enjoy traveling, riding their motorcycles and playing music.
