Eileen Atkinson is employed with the Law Offices of Beatrice L. Snider APC, where she assists in complex and high-asset family law matters from inception through trial.
A third-generation native San Diegan, she began her legal career in 1967 working for legendary divorce king John Holt. Holt’s office was the premier divorce firm and provided a magnificent foundation for Atkinson’s career. When she began working, parties battled over who was more responsible for the marital breakdown since the less guilty party received more property and higher support. Atkinson took dictation by shorthand and prepared pleadings in narrative form with typewriter and carbon paper. Yet to come were the days of no fault, printed forms, photocopiers and computers.
Early on, Atkinson worked with family law icons Gary Pike, John Lightner and Bruce Beals. An unexpected job change presented an opportunity to earn her paralegal certificate with honors in 1987 from the University of San Diego. Eileen then worked with family law specialist Denny Kershek for the next 15 years. She was the paralegal, bookkeeper and office manager for the high-paced, action-packed law firm. She made the charts for which Kershek became famous.
Atkinson was greatly affected by 9/11, which occurred on her birthday in 2001. After reassessing priorities, Atkinson made the decision to forego office management and return to strictly paralegal work with renowned attorney Beatrice L. Snider, a true mover and shaker in family law for 34 years. Here, without the administrative responsibilities, Atkinson has found respect, peace and serenity. She exudes a strong work ethic and is always happy to assist others and share her vast experience and knowledge.
In her 40-year career, Atkinson has demonstrated an ability to accept change, keep up with the times and is always looking forward to see what the future holds.
