Major Cases
I focus my practice on trademark prosecution and litigation and have handled matters for clients in every major industry including pharmaceutical, medical device, biotechnology, manufacturing, skin care, computer hardware, software, Internet, food and beverage, clothing and footwear, education and entertainment. Some of my more notable litigation matters include: a declaratory relief action filed against Vans Inc. regarding the trademark rights claimed by Vans in a black and white checkerboard design used on shoes; and a multi-jurisdictional trademark counterfeiting action filed against a worldwide ring of counterfeiters who were selling diamonds via the Internet with counterfeit diamond grading reports. I am also the only attorney who has ever been responsible for the global trademark portfolios of the world’s two largest facial and body aesthetics manufacturers, Mentor Corp. and Inamed (acquired by Allergan).
Professional Background
I am the managing principal of IP Legal Advisors PC, a law firm that I founded almost five years ago with only a handful of clients and less than 100 trademark matters. I am now responsible for more than 3,000 trademark matters worldwide and represent clients from around the globe, which ranges from some of the largest Fortune 500 companies to single-person start-ups. Prior to founding IP Legal Advisors, I supervised the trademark department in the San Diego office of Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (acquired by DLA Piper).
Professional Affiliations
I am a member of the International Trademark Association and the San Diego County Bar Association.
