Major Cases
Since joining Latham & Watkins in 1999, I have litigated a wide variety of cases involving major public and private companies, both locally and nationally. I have represented many corporate, banking and other professional clients, including nationally recognized corporations, accounting firms and prominent lawyers and law firms.
Notable recent matters include:
¥ Representation of major public companies in a number of federal court securities litigation class actions and companion state court derivative actions.
¥ Lead counsel in two wage and hour class action litigations in San Diego County Superior Court.
¥ Lead counsel in a legal malpractice case that involved complex patent prosecution and validity issues along with valuation of damage, if any, suffered by the claimant.
¥ Lead counsel in ongoing litigation surrounding the Fair Labor Standards Act and other related issues.
Professional Background
I am a partner and chair of the Litigation Practice in the San Diego office of Latham & Watkins. In a professional law career spanning more than 30 years, I have built my practice around complex business litigation and trial practice. In July 2006, I was selected by the Chief Judge of the U.S. Circuit Court for the Ninth Circuit to serve a three-year term as one of 15 lawyers on the Advisory Committee to the Ninth Circuit.
Professional Affiliations
I am a member of the Executive Committee and a Master of the Bench of the Inn, American Inns of Court, Louis M. Welsh Chapter, and was a founding member of the board of governors of the San Diego Association of Business Trial Lawyers. I served as a Director of the California Supreme Court Historical Society for four years. I’m a member of the American Arbitration Association, Panel of Arbitrators, a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, and have also been a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers Southern California Selection Committee and currently serve on its Complex Litigation Committee.
