Major Cases

Most recently, I was the lead technical attorney representing Motorola against RIM in a multijurisdictional patent dispute involving over 25 U.S. and foreign patents relating to mobile devices and communications pending in the Northern District of Texas, the U.S. International Trade Commission and in the Chancery Court in England. My other recent major patent litigation cases include representing CareFusion, Samsung, Hewlett-Packard, Eastman Kodak and others in the USITC and in Federal District Courts throughout the United States.

Professional Background

I began my career as an engineer at McDonnell-Douglas (later Boeing). While managing R&D projects funded by DARPA and others, I attended law school and became a patent attorney. I am also the named inventor on two U.S. patents. I left Boeing to join Charybdis Technologies in Carlsbad as director of engineering and general counsel. In 2000, I joined Gray Cary, where I’ve stayed through the merger that created DLA Piper. My practice focuses on complex patent litigation in a wide variety of technologies including wireless communications, computer hardware and software, image compression and processing, medical devices and water treatment.
