Gracidas-Ulibarry, 231 F.3d 1188 (9th Cir. 2000) (en banc), rejected a previous holding that attempted re-entry into the United States is a general intent crime, holding that specific intent was required. Professional Background I have been with Federal Defenders for the past 11 years. I am currently Chief Appellate Attorney. Prior to that, I was a supervisory trial attorney. Previously, I was in private practice for four years in San Diego, and, before that, I was with the Federal Defenders office for three years.
