I am pleased to see that Qualcomm Life has addressed whatever security measures are required to transmit patient data wirelessly and in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Now, can this same level of security be applied to the use of wireless devices (such as tablets) by medical staff who are interacting with EHR systems from Cerner and McKesson? Untethered devices with intuitive interfaces is what modern medical professionals desire to be more efficient in their use of these centralized systems but they are still tied to PC screens at the end of cabling. More often than not, physician-generated patient status and treatment information (e.g., procedures and drug orders) get hand written and/or dictated to the nursing staff to subsequently enter in the system.
