Jim was a great guy, friendly, appreciative, and no-nonsense. I enjoyed talking with him; he was a gifted speaker and a good listener. He had a keen sense of what was right, and for that I deeply respected his perspectives.

I had the good fortune to work with Jim in support of some major transportation initiatives. He could always look at things in a broader regional and strategic context, which was in sharp contrast to the opponents of every new road and development who would try to derail big ideas based on very narrow personal interests. His experiences with Gov. Reagan and beyond give him the vision to see what could benefit more San Diegans, our transportation systems and the economy. His contributions, including his columns in the Transcript, will be missed.
