Former San Diego Mayor Maureen O'Connor embezzled $2.1 million from a nonprofit charitable foundation founded by her late husband in order to support a serious gambling addiction, according to the U.S. attorney's office.

A billion dollars? Some things are hard to fathom. Wow. I guess the the money to put buildings in Las Vegas must come from somewhere. Implicitly we are asked to feel some pity for a person who, through huge wealth, had an enormous power to do good, but instead squandered the money in pursuit of personal thrills. Call it addiction, but it was for thrills, nevertheless. How much good could have come from a billion dollars in the right hands. Sad.

Fraud is prevalent. It does not stop! This is a caution to hire the experts and perform the due diligence on the experts!
