Paula 3:44pm March 7, 2013I agree with the first comment 100%......why can't they leave well enough alone? I lived in South Lake Tahoe from 1979 to 1985 and loved every minute of it, everytime I go back to visit I'm dismayed to see the changes. They're taking the character and beauty away from what was once an incredibly amazing place. I can't imagine there will be too many people wanting to stay at Camp Richardson during the winter and the idea of reducing the campsites seems ludicrous. We rode our bikes through Camp Richardson last summer and it was one of the few places that I felt had managed to keep it's charm and ambience......now I'm really glad I did that since I'm sure the next time I see it there will be big changes (most likely not for the better).
sandy grove 6:39pm March 5, 2013Having grown up every summer in Lake Tahoe, and being a Lake Tahoe homeowner, what this story does not say is that the agency appears to be joining other agencies in limiting affordable public access to the lake, a natural gem that should be enjoyed by all responsibly. Cutting campsites by 1/3 = higher costs per camp site. Opening up to winter use? Wow, I'm sure those who've grown up enjoying summers at this resort will be happy to know they can't stay in the summer, but can enjoy it when temperatures are at freezing with snow and the site is blown by the cold blustery Tahoe winds that frequently cross the lake. Once again, bureacracy making decisions for people, without asking what they want or considering what they deserve. Once more, bureaucracy at work - but not for the public good.
