Porter Novelli recently appointed Linda Martin as partner.

Martin, who is executive vice president and managing director of the agency's Irvine and San Diego offices, is also agency lead on the Almond Board of California.

San Diego PR firm CHE has recruited Julie Kartrude and Kristine Co into its advertising/creative services department.

Kartrude has more than 15 years of advertising agency experience in both Atlanta and Miami markets. Her client list includes The Home Depot, Coca-Cola, Office Depot, Walmart and GE.

Co arrives with marketing and sales experience in a variety of industries and served as the co-founder and executive director of the literary publication TAYO.

The Asian American Journalists Association is hosting its first Scrabble Showdown, sponsored by Sycuan Casino from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 14 at the Asia Business Center on El Cajon Boulevard.

This double-elimination tournament will feature teams of four, and there will be prizes for the top team and top individual player.

One-hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit journalism students and AAJA programs. The price to participate is $100 per a team of four or $30 for individuals.
