Mark McMillin

Mark McMillin was 14 when he started working for his father.

His first job was at an apartment project in Chula Vista. Sweeping up construction debris was his duty. From there McMillin worked his way through almost every job the company offered. He even interned with framing contractors and civil engineers to get a broader understanding of the business. When he entered college, he wanted to enroll in a construction program, but San Diego State University didn't have one. In fact, such a program didn't exist in the whole state of California. Now McMillin is the driving force behind SDSU's College of Engineering's Construction Engineering and Management program, and he believes that a solid education in construction engineering and business management is critical in enabling a thriving building industry.
