When Roger Ball was named to replace Lyle Gabrielson as president and CEO of Rick Engineering earlier this year, there was no need to re-shape the firm's image, as is sometimes the case with other companies.
Founder Glenn A. Rick, who helped conceive the Mission Bay waterfront area, taught Ball that the hallmarks of a successful company are not only flexibility and innovation, but also community involvement. Ball encourages employees to volunteer for community and charitable groups such as the YMCA, YWCA, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and many more.
Besides providing services in engineering and land development, and overseeing a company of more than 450 employees, Ball has a desire to support the disenfranchised and has in the past supported many organizations operating in San Diego and beyond, sending major contributions to victims of the 2003 Cedar Fire - which included members of Rick Engineering -- and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
