Kleanthis Xanthopoulos has had a dual love of science and business since he was a teenager in Greece studying in a science program and trading leather goods in his spare time. For the past six years, he has been exercising both of those infatuations as the founder and CEO of Anadys Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq: ANDS), and now he wants to try and do it again.
The recent winner of Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Health Sciences, Xanthopoulos announced that he'll step down as the head of Anadys and work for Enterprise Partners, where he hopes to provide funding to build "more companies like Anadys."
"I love this industry; I want to influence the industry on multiple levels," Xanthopoulos said. "I'm more interested in translating science into business. If I'm fortunate enough to create a company that's as good as Anadys and do it again then I will be truly grateful and very satisfied."
