Douglas Manchester

Most people react strongly to the name Doug Manchester. Sometimes it's good and sometimes not so good. Even those knocked around by Manchester over the years offer praise, sometimes grudgingly, of his ability to succeed against the odds.

In March, the Navy chose Manchester, the developer of the Manchester Grand Hyatt and Marriott Hotel & Marina, for exclusive negotiations to develop the bay front parcel. He plans to build an office building for the Navy's regional headquarters that could cost at least $150 million. In exchange, Manchester would get a long-term lease for the rest of the site to develop offices, hotels and shops. His company has been involved in most of the major waterfront improvements built over the last two decades, but a vote has been delayed while the city completes an environmental review. Whatever the outcome, you can bet people will have an opinion on Manchester.
