During his first six months at the helm of the University of California, San Diego Health System, Tom Jackiewicz surprised more than a few in San Diego County’s health care community with announcements to build a new $664 million, 245-bed hospital on UCSD’s East Campus in La Jolla as well as another one down the road on the site of the existing trauma-level general hospital at the Hillcrest medical center.
“This is an exciting time for UC San Diego Health System,” said Jackiewicz, who was named CEO late last year. “I’m focused on maintaining the strong growth and momentum we have and further building upon our successful 40-plus-year track record.”
Jackiewicz, 51, joined UC San Diego Health Systems (established in 1966 as UC San Diego Medical Center) in 2001, most recently serving as associate vice chancellor and chief financial officer.
