Old world traditions begin anew at La Jolla's Montefaro

Of all the neighborhoods in San Diego County, few have captured the world's imagination, nor the storied traditions of unsurpassed luxury and elegance, as the classic village of La Jolla. Blessed with sparkling beaches, parks, luxury hotels, galleries, designer boutiques and fine restaurants and cafes, La Jolla has deservedly maintained its reputation as the pinnacle of opulence for more than a century.

Hence the homebuyer's dream of buying "new" in this village -- that is, a residence untouched by previous owners -- has remained a fantasy beyond reach. Until now.

Montefaro by Centex is one of the first new home developments to debut in La Jolla during the past decade. Its innovative designs and appointments that respect Old World traditions and a European-lifestyle that have long been the hallmarks of this historic beach side enclave.

"Montefaro is one of the last prime locations available in the coveted Village of La Jolla," said Jay Kerr, San Diego division president of Centex Homes. "Unlike older resale homes that have long dominated its streets, Montefaro offers superior craftsmanship, luxurious elegance and flexible options only available to charter owners. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become the first occupant in a new home in this near-legendary village."

According to Kerr, more than 70 percent of Montefaro's available residences have sold. Such sales success can be attributed in part to its prime location, a secluded corner at Genter Street and Girard Avenue, overlooking the 18th fairway of the La Jolla Country Club.

Priced from $1.2 million, its large and expansive, single-level residences offer designs up to 3,400 square feet, with three bedrooms and three baths. Move-ins are slated next spring.

Montefaro in La Jolla is one of the first new luxury home developments in La Jolla to debut in the past decade.

"Montefaro represents the last high-end residential alternative in La Jolla," Kerr said. "Unlike newer communities, this village already has a firmly rooted history with established spatial relationships between homes, businesses and natural landmarks. Its residents proudly maintain a fiercely guarded way of life that's never going to change. It's the biggest reason why everyone wants in. Where else are you going to find a seaside village with such character and cultural diversity? Montefaro is an opportunity not to be missed, and strong sales thus far proves many others feel the same."

Featuring an Italian coastal style architecture by award-winning Martinez + Cutri Architects, Montefaro will consist of five buildings -- three two-story and two four-story structures -- surrounded by ornate wrought iron gates complemented by stone walls, outdoor lighting and fountains. Lush landscaping, including low manicured hedges, complete this picture, ensuring privacy and seclusion even while entertaining guests near a spa, pool or gathering area that comes complete with built-in barbecues and fireplaces.

Kerr said a leisurely stroll from Montefaro puts residents in the heart of one of the world's most desirable oceanfront locations.
