C.W. Clark Inc., one of Southern California's most experienced commercial real estate developers, has joined The Corky McMillin Cos. in the further completion of Liberty Station, the redevelopment of San Diego's historic Naval Training Center, which closed in 1997.
C.W. Clark will build out the Marketplace, an enclave of neighborhood-serving establishments, which will include restaurants, one-of-a-kind boutiques, an educational component, wine and picnic shop, coffee/pastry shop, sandwich shop and grocer. There will be outside dining at the restaurants and coffee bistros.
The groundbreaking for the $35 million project is set for the first quarter of 2004, with the project to be completed by late 2004 or early 2005.
The Marketplace is the renovation and adaptive reuse of four of the Naval Training Center's Historic Buildings, and will consist of approximately 150,000 square feet of space within the historic core of Liberty Station.
"This project really plays to our company's strengths and is a natural extension of our redevelopment work in the Yuma, Arizona market as well as our mixed-use development throughout the West," said Craig Clark, president and chair of La Jolla-based C.W. Clark Inc.
Also included in the Marketplace development is the former NTC chapel, which contains an old working pipe organ. The chapel will be available for christenings, weddings, reunions, installment of new Navy chaplains, commemorative and memorial services, funerals and dramatic pageants, as well as musical concerts and symposiums.
This aspect of the project is especially meaningful to Clark, a 1965 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and former base chaplain. Three generations of the Clark family have been and are presently in the Navy. Clark's father went through NTC San Diego in 1940, and Clark's son is a recently commissioned officer stationed in San Diego.
The retail leasing is being coordinated by Jon Bilger, Mike Moser and Maya Grim of CB Richard Ellis, (858) 546-4600. For additional information on C.W. Clark Inc., visit www.cwclarkinc.com.
