    The Associated Builders and Contractors chapters nationwide, including San Diego, have joined the Construction Coalition for a Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace (CCDAFW) program. Working along with various construction trade associations, the goal is to improve safety for all workers by eliminating injuries and fatalities that occur as a result of substance abuse-related incidents.

  • Bergelectric’s diversity boosts the bottom line

    Thirty-thousand veterans complete their military service in California each year, but only 25 percent of them find civilian employment. Although the White House recently unveiled a plan to lower the veteran unemployment rate, Frank Boecker, human resources director at Bergelectric and himself a military veteran, decided he couldn’t wait for someone else to put together a program to help vets find employment. Five years ago, he and Bergelectric decided to do something about it and started recruiting veterans as employees. When business picked up in 2010, he set a goal of hiring one veteran per week.

Ernst & Young is predicting a 7 percent growth in the hospitality construction industry and as a top tourist destination, San Diego construction companies are already benefiting. From select service to full-service operations, all levels are showing signs of growth with either renovations or new construction.
