It is hard to imagine that at the start of 2008 many people anticipated the local and national banking industry would go through such a dramatic and tumultuous change. The question being asked now is what is likely to happen in the New Year, and how will it ripple through the overall economy. 
While the real estate, banking and auto industries have been hit hardest by the current recession, every business is feeling the affects of the economic turmoil. 
Industry experts predicted that two of the biggest changes facing America in the coming year -- the struggling economy and a new president -- are both likely to have major influence on the biotech, high-tech and defense industries in 2009. 
The various areas of business and consumer services have felt the economic crisis unevenly this year, but they have all felt it nevertheless. 
As economists and financial advisers predict a continued down economy for much of the nation next year, one believes San Diego will be fine due to its location on the map. 
Most speakers at the University of San Diego's Ninth Annual Residential Real Estate Conference: Outlook 2009 were not optimistic about the coming year, describing the current market as "extremely weak," a "web of terror" and a "death spiral."
